I wish I knew my first year…
When students got upset, I expected them to calm down on their own. Spoiler: they couldn’t. But when you start teaching calm-down strategies step by step, things change. The difference? Students finally have the tools they needed to reset independently.

Comment for these free calming cards! These calming strategies card are the perfect visual to help you teach your students concrete strategies they can use when their bodies or emotions feel unregulated. Some ways to use them:
✨Post them in your calm corner as a clear visual with choices for students who need to take a break
✨Put them on a ring and carry it with you to take out whenever you see a student who starts to need support with regulation.
✨Choose three or four for an individual student to have at their desk as a reminder of what they can do when they start to feel like they need help focusing.

These incentive charts are so helpful to have when you have behavioral goals you’d like your class to work on. And students will LOVE finding out what the next month’s chart theme will be!

Here’s how I like to use these…
✨Set a goal with your students (following directions the first time, being respectful, not calling out, etc.)
✨Explain that every day they meet their goal, one of the images will get filled in.
✨At the end of the day, if they’ve met their goal, go the next slide – they’ll get to see a fun animation fill in the next image!
✨When all the images are filled, they’ve earned a reward! (Like PJ day, a movie, extra recess, or a yummy treat!)
